Privacy Policy

Last updated 4 October 2026

This policy explains what personal information ChickPoint collects, how we use it, who can see it, and the choices you have. If anything is unclear, contact us and we will explain.

1. Who we are

ChickPoint is an online directory that helps people in Uganda who raise, sell, supply and care for chickens find one another. In this policy, “ChickPoint”, “we” and “us” mean the operator of the ChickPoint website, and we are responsible for the personal information described here.

You can reach us at any time through our support chat.

2. Information we collect

We collect only the information we need to run the service.

  • Account details: your phone number and a password. Your password is stored in a protected form that we cannot read.
  • Profile details: your name, profile photo, region, district and village, a short description and up to six extra photos, and details about your work, such as your vehicle, clinic, shop or business name, specialties, service area and experience.
  • Listings: the birds or products you list, including quantities, prices and any notes you add.
  • Payment records: when you pay the platform fee by Mobile Money, you send us proof of payment on WhatsApp. We see what appears on that proof, such as the amount, date, transaction reference and the name or number of the payer. We never see or ask for your Mobile Money PIN.
  • Technical information: your IP address, browser and device type, the pages you visit, the buttons you select and error reports, collected automatically when you use the site.
  • Messages: if you contact us, we keep the conversation so that we can help you.

3. What is shown publicly

ChickPoint is a public directory. Once we approve your profile, anyone who visits the site can see your name, photo, location, the description and extra photos you add, the business details you entered and your phone number, including a button that opens a WhatsApp chat with you. Please enter only information you are happy to share publicly.

Your profile is not shown until we approve it. Your password and your payment proof are never shown. Anyone who sees your phone number can contact you outside ChickPoint, and we cannot control what they do with it.

4. How we use your information

We use your information to:

  • create and manage your account;
  • review and approve profiles and confirm payments;
  • show your profile in the directory and let other people contact you;
  • keep ChickPoint safe, and prevent fraud, spam and abuse;
  • answer your questions and requests for support;
  • fix problems and improve the service; and
  • meet our legal obligations.

We rely on your consent, on our need to provide the service you asked for, and on our legal obligations. By creating a profile you agree to the uses described in this policy.

5. Who we share information with

We share information with the public as described in section 3. We also share it with service providers who help us run ChickPoint, for example by hosting the website, storing our database and uploaded photos, performing security checks, monitoring errors, measuring how the site is used and handling messages. These providers may use your information only to provide their service to us.

We may disclose information to the authorities, courts or other parties where the law requires it, or where it is needed to protect the rights and safety of our users or of ChickPoint. If ChickPoint is ever sold or reorganised, your information may be passed to the new owner, who will be bound by this policy.

We do not sell your personal information.

When you contact someone through WhatsApp, that conversation takes place on WhatsApp and is governed by its own terms and privacy policy.

6. Storing information outside Uganda

Some of our service providers store and process information in other countries. When personal information is transferred outside Uganda, we take reasonable steps to make sure it is protected to a standard comparable to Ugandan law. By using ChickPoint you consent to these transfers.

7. How long we keep information

We keep your account and profile information for as long as your account is active.

If you ask us to delete your account, we remove your profile from the directory and delete or anonymise your personal information. We may keep records that the law requires us to keep, or that we need to resolve disputes and prevent fraud, such as payment records. Technical logs and error reports are kept for a limited period.

8. Cookies

We use cookies and similar technologies. Some are essential: they keep you logged in and protect our forms from automated abuse. Others help us understand how ChickPoint is used, such as which pages are visited, the type of device and the approximate area visitors come from. We do not use cookies to show you advertising. You can block cookies in your browser, but some parts of ChickPoint, such as logging in, will not work without the essential ones.

9. Keeping your information secure

We protect your information with encrypted connections, access controls and secure storage, and we limit who can see it. No system is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security. Please choose a strong password and keep it private.

If a security incident affects your personal information, we will notify you and the Personal Data Protection Office where the law requires us to.

10. Your rights

Under the Data Protection and Privacy Act, 2019 of Uganda, your rights include the right to:

  • ask whether we hold personal information about you and receive a copy of it;
  • ask us to correct information that is inaccurate or incomplete;
  • ask us to delete your information;
  • object to the use of your information; and
  • withdraw your consent at any time.

Withdrawing your consent may mean that we can no longer keep your profile in the directory. To use any of these rights, contact us through our support chat. We will respond within a reasonable time, and we may need to confirm your identity first.

If you are not satisfied with how we have handled your information, you may complain to the Personal Data Protection Office at the National Information Technology Authority, Uganda.

11. Children

ChickPoint is for people aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If you believe a child has given us information, please contact us and we will delete it.

12. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. When we make an important change, we will update the date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, tell you directly. If you keep using ChickPoint after a change, you accept the updated policy.

13. Contact us

If you have a question about this policy or about your personal information, contact us through our support chat.
